Project Overview

In this project we propose a 3D reconstruction of the Great Mosuqe of Cordoba in Spain. We focus on the original complex (784 AD - 961 AD) prior to the installation of illaviciosa Chapel and the Royal Chapel. Due to the absence of historical data on the actual interior decoration and lighting of the mosque around the time it was built, we propose to adapt data collected from nearby geographical region around the same period. The 3D reconstruction covers architecture by Abd ar-Rahman I, Abd ar-Rahman III and Al-Hakam II, with the main aisle in the last expansion decorated with polycandela. The 3D reconstruction allows walkthrough inside the complex and supports our statement that the poly-lobed arches introduced by the Al-Hakam II expansion are in fact an interleaved form of remembrance of the earlier structure of the mosuqe.
